Today, in 1960, The Andy Griffith Show debuted, starting a fandom that approaches religious cult. (I swear, in some parts of the Carolinas, the Holy Trinity is Jesus, Dale Earnhardt, and Andy Griffith) So useless facts - in the first few episodes, Andy and Barney were supposed to be cousins. The producers dropped the angle mid way through the first season. Andy's middle name is Jackson, but Barney's at various times was Milton, Oliver, or the middle initial P, which was later ripped off for the character of Roscoe P. Coletrane in the Dukes of Hazzard. The actor who played Ernest T Bass was a classically trained Shakespearean actor who was also the original voice of the Hamburglar, Gopher from Winnie the Pooh, and Atom Ant. Helen Crump was supposed to be a one shot, but she showed so much more chemistry with Andy than the actress who was supposed to be his love interest that she was written into the show. The show was filmed on the same set as Gone With the Wind, and in some episodes that show the street outside the courthouse, you can see the Atlanta train station in the background.
It's also International Alternative Fuel Day (yay Miss Chris), World Cardmaking Day (let's see those hybrid projects!) Change a Lightbulb Day (so if you've been sitting in the dark since April, now is a good time to do something about it) and Virus Appreciation Day. Believe it or not, there is such a thing as a good biological virus. There are some that kill harmful viruses, and scientists are experimenting with using those to combat illnesses such as cystic fibrosis and leukemia. Although the president of McAfee offered a $100,000 award for a truly useful computer virus, the money has never been claimed.
It's also National Caramel Custard Day, which sounds like a good thing to get into.
Don't forget the Speed SCrap tonight, 10pm in the chat room. See ya there!
