It's National Dog Day! Time to celebrate our four legged family members of all shapes and sizes. It's also National Cherry Popsicle Day and National Petroleum Day. My ex inlaws used to have a German Shepherd that ate popsicles. You could give him one wrapped in paper, and he would carefully tear the paper off, hold the stick between his front paws, and eat it like a kid. He avoided petroleum products. ;)
Happy Wednesday!

ROFL!
My dog loves ice cubes, but I'm not substituting any popsicles - he has a bad habit of leaving them on the rug ;)

LOL!
The weather has been a little cool the past week, but I guess it is supposed to drastically change today...perfect for a popsicle!!

Not sure if my pup is up for a popsicle today. He's still under the weather. I picked him up from the boarder when I got back from vacation and he seemed fine, but next thing I know he was having really messy "accidents" all over the house. It still hasn't stopped. Poor guy got so stressed that I was gone he made himself sick :(

Aww, poor Tyco :( Mommy will have to give him lots of extra love! (which is a challenge if he's leaving so many "presents...")

Actually it's so bad and he's so darn pathetic that I can't even get mad. He just lays around and only gets up to poop *L*

good lord...I don't think my dogs would even bother with the paper, they'd just eat it paper, stick and all lol.
Dani I'm so sorry to hear about Tyco - would giving him a little cheese help out with his upset digestive system? If you're not wanting to give him that, then regular cheerios work well too (and my Vet suggested them when we had the issue with Pola).

My groomer (who is way more helpful than my vet, actually) recommended rice and yogurt...

Poor pup! My vet also recommended plain, staight out of the can pumpkin. Weirdly enough, my dog loved it and it did help.
Our dog always loved ice cubes, but we never tried popsicles. I'm sure she wouldn't have removed the paper, just would have eaten that too. We used to say she was part goat after she chewed through a can to get at the tuna inside. Still a little hard to believe its been over a year since she crossed the rainbow bridge.
Take care of your friend, Dani. Hope she feels better soon.

I tried the rice but he wanted no part of it. I should try the other stuff though. I have cheese in the fridge so I guess that's first. And I'd be willing to bet I have a can of pumpkin around and I bet he would love it. Poor little dude is making me sad just looking at him :(

You know what else is weird...he won't come when I call him if I'm near the door. It's like he is afraid I'm going to take him back there. And when I go to pet him he flinches like I'm going to hit him. This was a reputable boarding place but let me find out they mistreated my pup and there will be **heck** to pay! It may just be that he is afraid he is in trouble for all the lovely spots all over my rugs though.

Hey there, sorry to hear about your dog! I work at a Vet. Hosp. and I have a couple of pointers for you:
You can make a bland diet (boiled rice, boiled boneless-skinless chicken or cottage cheese) and feed smaller sized meals to help with the *messy stuff*. You can also use canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie mix!!) and give it to him a couple of times a day to help firm it up (it also can help with constapation, FYI). Depends on the size of the dog, but you can use 1/4-1 cup of the pumpkin.
There are also pro-biotics like Fortiflora which help. If it doesn't clear up you may want to have a fecal done to check for worms and parasites...and if he gets worse, have him seen by the doctor!
Hope that helps!!

OK, LOL...edited to add: I should have read all of the way through this post before replying! Dani-if his behaviour has changed, like it sounds it has...I think you may want to have him see his doctor. Good luck!

oh, happy dog day is EASY for us! lol..we have a great golden retriever who is so loving, it is easy to just love her to pieces back.
And in honor of today, although she never gets people food unless she is sick, (Julie's rice remedy is what our vet said too), she got a popsicle today!
So, Kelly...maddy thanks you! lol

Well...things seem to be firming up *L* and he is still a bit mopey but DH had him outside running around for a bit and he seems a little happier now. He still isn't eating (except when he couldn't resist stealing a few licks of DDs ice cream when she wasn't looking) but I think he's coming around and I'll see how he does in the morning.

Yes it does help, it's great advice. He is crashed next to me in bed right now so I'm hoping to see a new puppy in the morning. Or actually...my old puppy back *L*
