has learned that if she stands on her hind legs, she can pull down the handle to open the storm door with her front paw and let herself out. Unfortunately, letting herself back in involves pushing in the button on the handle while pulling the door outwards, which she just can't manage herself. The little pneumatic cylinder is at the bottom of the door so I'm just waiting for her to figure out how to press the button to prop the door open.

OMG...smart girl! Hope she isn't a runner!!! That's awesome-when she DOES figure it out, you need to set up a camera to film it all and send it in to AFHV! LOL
I had rescued a lab (we named her AllieKat) this past spring, she was an escape artist from hell! She broke out my screens, crawled up the pond and waterfall rocks and jumped the wall-you name it, this girl did it. She also destroyed the remote, a phone, etc. She had been running along the riverbank and in fields in a small town, next to her home where she'd had puppies. She was hungry, neglected and so loveable. The owners did not want her, in fact they had the nerve to tell me that they had been waiting for her to get hit by a truck!!!!! She was gun shy so he did not want her. I just couldn't leave her there, so she came home with us...she was a good road trip dog, but she was deathly afraid of the fishing pole (or any stick-like items) and couldn't be tied up. She did pretty good on a leash though.
Long story short (and I don't mean to steal your thread), she escaped one too many times...even from a 'new home'! The county would call work about a yellow lab with a microchip number (they had not recieved the registration form from me yet) and I KNEW it was her every time!
The last time, I told her to keep her. I couldn't keep doing it anymore. I sent them her medical records (I'd had her spayed too) and all the info about her. I hope she found a good home on a LOT of acreage...poor girl.
I love to hear all of your stories about your new sweetheart!!
