September 3 - Men Everywhere Rejoice

Today, in history, the first professional football game was played in 1895 and the first professional bowling league was established in 1921. Men across the planet have been glued to televisions ever since.

It's also Skyscraper Day. We don't have many of them around here, due to the fact Florida is built on a series of underground caves and rivers. It causes the ground to shift, which makes skyscrapers a little unsafe. Until the 1970s, the tallest building around here was only 15 stories. Now the tallest building in Jacksonville is the Bank of America Tower (better known locally as the Darth Vader Building) which is 42 stories, and reportedly haunted due to a couple construction workers who were killed in the process.

In food, today is International Welsh Rarebit Day. It's a kind of fondue dip made with cheese and I have no idea why it has a name that makes kids think there's rabbit in it.

when I read it the first thing that came to mind is a were-rabit dont ask are you sure teh fondue isnt made with like stewed rabit or something gross? cause seriously, name your food something delicious so people will oh I dont know maybe actually WANT to eat it?! lol and skyscraper day, hmmm ok. and the fact about men lol I kinda wish Adam like football, but no its me who like watching it.

Ya know, when I lived in SC, there weren't any skyscrapers either. Actually the only buildings in town over two stories were some old three story houses (pre-1900) on the upper end of Main St. Of course, that probably had something to do with the fact that there wasn't much need to put that many people in one place, not that we even had the people around to do it with. LOL

I watch football if I'm with a group of friends, but otherwise, it gets tedious and the ADHD kicks in.

Hubby and I are both football addicts and I'm the bowler!! LOL Never enjoyed watching it on TV though, just doing it. In fact, I need to see if I can get back into a league...

I like in town full of hotels so, there's lots of skyscrapper hotels! Does that count?? LOL

As I recall, traditional Welsh Rarebit is basically cheese and beer melted together...now I'm curious and will have to do a search to be sure! Sounds like something that would go nicely with football on TV.

Skyscrapers? Here in Podunkville? Our city council just about went crazy when they were asked to approve a new building that's supposed to be 6 (yes SIX) stories. But we have really tall mountains....maybe that's a good substitute.

I refuse to have stairs in my house, cause then I have to climb. So instead I have to walk a LONG ways to get to the kids bedrooms. Carrying laundry is a pain. Some skyscrapers in town, but not many.

Ok. When I read the title in the forum I was really excited cuz it said "Men everywhere" then I get here and see the "rejoice". So.....I decided instead of "Men Everywhere Rejoice!" I would read it: "Men Everywhere, REJOICE!" and I'll skip the post about sports and skyscrapers and think of hot firemen calendars. Oh, Deeeeeennnnnisssssseeee............

I've seen plenty of skyscrapers in my day, I grew up in NYC.

Oh, and just for the record....I hate football. I mean I really really despise it. That and hockey. I don't get them at all. I would rather watch golf, tennis, NASCAR, or even ping pong on TV than football or hockey. Don't know why...I just always hated it. Now baseball I LOVE.

Awww, and see, I love football and hate baseball :) I guess it's just because I can never catch the action in baseball. I watch and watch and then I get bored and my mind wanders, and by the time I pay attention again I've missed it. Football has a more regular cadence and it's easier for me to pay attention.

That being said, the biggest argument amongst local sports newscasters is whether the Broncos will win 3 games this season or 4. Y''know. Out of SIXTEEN. ::sigh::
