Today is Puzzle Day. If jigsaw puzzles are your thing, try www.jigzone.com for online puzzles, in varying numbers of pieces and levels of difficulty. Or you can do it the old fashioned way, spread one out on the coffee table, and argue over whether to do the edges first or all the green pieces. I like word puzzles better. As in I'm addicted to Eager Beaver on Webkinz. Did you know when you get to 320, it cuts off and says "Thank you for playing."? That stinks.

It's also Carnation Day. I'm telling you, it's a florist conspiracy to get us built up for Valentine's Day.

Today is Thomas Paine Day. I'm sure you studied in American history what a great founding father he was, having written many articles and books stirring Americans to think for themselves, pursue liberty, and throw off the chains of tyrrany, but as Paul Harvey would say, here's the rest of the story. After the American Revolution, he failed to stop while he was ahead. He continued to publish books and articles of his theories and opinions, which pretty much ticked off all religious groups and political parties in existence at the time, because he basically thought that he was right and everyone else was wrong. He eventually was kicked out of Congress, so he went to France to help stir up the peasants in the French Revolution which was just beginning. He ended up being elected to office there, but didn't learn his lesson, ticked off Napoleon, and was impeached, imprisoned, and sentenced to execution, before President Jefferson intervened and got him deported back to the US. When he died in 1809, 6 people attended his funeral - the pastor, a neighbor, his three household servants, and the maid's son.

Today is also World Leprosy Day. Let's not share that, ok?

And it's National Cornchip Day!. So we have Doritos, Fritos, and Tostitos, with all kinds of dip. My favorites are Spinach Artichoke Dip, and what we call Debbie Dip after the person who makes it all the time. You melt a block of low fat cream cheese, mix with a pound of cooked and crumbled sausage (turkey sausage is fine) and add a can of Rotel tomatoes. Feel free to triple that recipe and bring it to the Speed SCrap tomorrow night.

TGIF!!!!

Well, phooey. I'm gonna want Debbie Dip all day, now.

I've known a few people with definite Thomas Paine personalities - he was well named because he's a pain!

I had to read Common Sense by Paine for my college history class. I think I was the only one that actually read it (it was a summer class) though because when we discussed it inclass no one else seemed to know what the teacher was talking about.
