Play it Again, Sam

May 20, 2012

Okay, here we are with another re-do.  Really, it is embarrassing to me to look back and see my beginner level.  I hope it helps you realize that we ALL started out as newbie’s in the digital scrap booking field :)

This was back in 2003.  Don’t ask about what papers I used, since I didn’t record back then :)

This is the re-do:

For this I used:

ScrapDZines: Memory Lane Templates: Set 13

Southern Creek Designs: Mothers Wish

and

Hint: When you are low on time, templates are a wonderful way to get the page done!

I think I am going to be changing this to Makeover Sunday.  I have another made over layout for you!

Again, forgive the very beginning-ness of this:

I would list the credits for these super old layouts, but in all honesty, seven years ago I did not track the products I used for each layout!

I worked this over, made the pictures smaller, and gave it a blocked type configuration:

What do you think? Better?  I think so!  If nothing else, the shadows are so much better.  Shadows, in a digital layout make all the difference in the world!

I was creating a sign for a lesson that I plan on teaching today in church.  It was lacking something. I figured I would add a dotted line to the top and the bottom to make it pretty, and add emphasis.  I don’t have any dotted brushes handy, but they are super easy to make. Let’s get started:

In the Tools panel, choose your Brush Tool.

In the Control Panel, choose the Brush Panel Options.

The Brush Panel should pop up with several options you cam make to your brush.

I chose size 32 hard brush from the brush menu.

Under Brush Tip Shape, we are going to change the spacing to 200.

Create a new layer to apply the brush to, by using the shortcut CTRL Shift N (Mac: CMD Shift N)

Click on the layer where you want your line to start.

Holding the Shift key, draw a line the length you would like it.

Remember the Shift key keeps the line straight for you.

That was nice and simple and added the emphasis I needed for my quote:

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter

Well, by now you all know that I am an amazing photographer…… NOT.  I wish I was.  Oh well.  I have my shortcuts that help me out when I make some mistakes.  Today we are going to learn a bit about how to warm a photo.  Why would you need that?  Well, technically when you shoot in the shade, you tend to get more blue in the subjects than you really want.

Here is my sweet little hurricane as an example:

Isn’t she sweet?

Let’s start out with HOW to get to the warming filter.

Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Photo Filter

This will bring up a window with some choices.

We are going to choose the default Warming Filter (85).

You can change the Density percentage to your choice.

I left it at 25% for mine.

Click the arrow in the top right to close the extended window.

Now, using the shortcut for merging layers, Ctrl E (Mac: Cmd E), merge your layers.

Check out both of them side by side:

First off, did you change your clocks for daylight savings time?  If you don’t do daylight savings time, count your blessings.  It has given me a headache today.

Now, we are working with photos again.  We traveled last week to a funeral and on the way, saw some beautiful sights.  I took some pics along the way.

So pretty!  However I wanted this in black and white to give a stronger effect.

Shortcut for changing to black and white is Ctrl Shift U (Mac: Cmd Shift U).

Now that looks ….. ehhhh.

With another quick shortcut we can go from ehhh, to AWWWWW!

Ctrl L brings up our levels panel (Mac: Cmd L)

This shows where our blacks, midtones, and highlights are.

We are going to move the sliders until they meet up with our black mountain area.

Watch your picture as you do it.

You will want to make some adjustments based on your own picture and taste.

This is what I now have:

Now that is AWWWWW!
