Creative Team Spotlight: Ozegirl

August 24, 2011

This post is part of a series on our blog that will introduce you to the designers and team members that work behind the scenes at Plain Digital Wrapper to make it a fun-loving, digi-family. We would love to get to know you better as well, so if you aren’t already hanging out with us in the forum, please take a moment to say good morning to us, introduce yourself, and find some inspiration from our many challenges!

This week we are spotlighting another new-to-PDW staff member, Jenni (aka Ozegirl). Thanks to her sweet spirit and amazing talent, Jenni has already made some beautiful contributions to PDW in her short time with us. Jenni joined the Plain Digital Wrapper CT in June of this year.

She describes her scrapping style as having no particular style.  “I scrap to the photo and the kit – one of my designers said she loves receiving pages from me as I always surprise her – she never quite knows how I will interpret her kit – I take that as a compliment”.

Jenni has been scrapbooking since 2004 and started “paper” scrapper when her second son got married. However, she was never really a complete paper scrapper since, even back then, every page had some sort of digital element to it. “I loved printing on ribbon and canvas and enjoyed ‘playing around’ with photos and text/journaling.” It didn’t take much time for her to change from paper to a strictly digital approach to scrapbooking.

“By 2005, apart from hybrid projects I was a fully fledged digiscrapper.  I have four children of my own and my husband has 4 also so between us we have 1 granddaughter and 9 grandsons so I have a lot of family to scrap – apart from the fact that I love my computer, photographic programs and actions it does not put too much of a dent in the bank balance.  Digiscrapping Highlights include being contacted by TDS asking if they could feature a hybrid project I did and being published in Australian Scrapbooking Memories Magazine.”

For someone who started out meshing both paper and digital, it should come as no surprise that she is also a hybrid scrapbooker. “I embrace hybrid scrapping completely and when my granddaughter Ameeka comes home from overseas I enjoy nothing more than hybrid scrapping with her.  She came home to Perth from California during her school holidays and we scrapped a wooden keepsake box for her best friend here who she still keeps in constant contact with.” She said she also makes a lot of CD Albums for her young grandson. “They are easy for him to handle and once treated with a High Shine Glaze are virtually indestructible.”

Jenni shared the following with us in her interview:

If you could relive a day from your past, what would it be? Can I turn this one around a little…lol? I was extremely close to my maternal grandfather and he was fascinated by everything…I would love to relive a day with him – and yet – this is the turning around part…show him computers, faxes, smartphones etc. He would get such a kick out of all the new techno stuff – so it would be going back but taking the new with me

What flavor of drink would you be? Oh Lemon, Lime and Bitters – delish!!

What is your greatest accomplishment? My four children – all wonderful human beings, kind, compassionate and accomplished, happy, healthy and loved.

What is your favorite snack to scrap with? Chocolate or almonds and cashews – if they are all mixed up together that is pure bliss!  A steady stream of coffee is a must too!!

Do you sing in the shower/car? Only if I’m alone – a primary school teacher once told me to move my lips but make sure no sound came out.  When alone I sing with gusto though.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, who would you want to be there with you? Bear Grylls

What is your weakness? Babies/toddlers – I wish someone would leave one on my doorstep – or at least a baby orangutan.

You just inherited the Witch’s Candy House from Hanzel and Gretel, what do you do now? Move my scrap room, computers etc. into the Witch’s Candy House but leave all cleaning products etc. in my original home – there is no place for them here!

Wii, Playstation, X-box or No, thank you? Wii = for the exercises, not the games – I am not a game person although I did get caught up in Zoo World on FaceBook and had to stop because I was spending too much time caring for my animals.

If you could choose only one type of element to scrap with, what would it be? Now that is a difficult question and I cannot really answer – but I tell you which element causes me the most angst – it is the simple button – where to place it – it is the one element I place and move, and place and move…

Do you have a designated scrapping spot? I have my own scrap room – Fred and I used to share it but I slowly pushed him out – now he has his own room too for all his computer fun.

How many pages do you usually do from one kit? What is the most pages you have ever done from a single kit?  I often do two but if I am doing an album I prefer to stay with the one kit for constituency – I have made 12 x 12 albums of 60 pages, 8 x 8 and lots of wooden shaped albums using just the one kit.

What advice would you give to a new digital scrapbooker? Always follow your heart – if it looks good to you then it is good – it is your memory you are scrapping.  Google is your friend – there is a tutorial for everything you ever need to know about the program you are using – search and you will find. Never be afraid to ask – fellow scrappers are the friendliest, most helpful bunch and are not only happy to help but enjoy helping.

What fellow scrapper’s gallery most inspires you and why?  Anita (modgee) is the most amazing scrapper and I love that we often work on the same kits and yet she has a softer style than me – her pages always blow me away with their creativity.

What keeps you scrapping? I could not imagine my life without scrapping.  I could never draw – what I saw in my minds eye was vastly different than what appeared on paper – I was left frustrated – I have a wonderful imagination and creativie mind so scrapping allows that part of me to evolve and continue to create.  I would love to be able to look back on my life through scrap pages and I am sure my children and grandchildren will cherish the pages I do.

Have you taken any digital scrapbooking classes you have found particularly helpful? Yes, Jessica Sprague and Linda Sattgast – both wonderful teachers – classes taken have included, Easy Page Design, Shadow techniques and a class on scrapping with Tablets – I only use a tablet and pen, never a mouse, and a keyboard for typing purposes only.

Jenni continues to inspired us at PDW with layouts like these:

This layout was made for the Journal Me This Challenge at PDW using One for the Boys by Kimeric Kreations. Doing this challenge brought back so many childhood memories – things I hadn’t thought about for years and I became quite nostalgic remembering just how much fun my brother and I had as children. You can read the complete journaling in the gallery (image is linked).

I love the brightness and motion in this page (created with One for the Boys by Kimeric Kreations) of my grandson Kylan being a typical boy.  I have to rely mainly on photos of him growing as my son and his family live overseas, but he is so like his Daddy that I can almost ‘be there’.  When I talk to him on Skype he is a little livewire and constantly runs to his room to get something else to show me while I patiently wait his return to the computer camera.

My granddaughter Ameeka and Kylan having silly, simple, sweet, summertime fun in their backyard.  I loved the bright colours in this kit, Backyard Buzz ScrapKit by ScrapDZines,  and Ameeka had to wait so long for a little baby brother or sister that I delight in seeing them enjoying each other so much.

My daughter Gwenni is a team member of the Pukka Chukkas and played Elephant Polo in Nepal.  The World Elephant Polo Association raises money for charities around the world.  They also take  mountain bikes – played polo with them too – and then donated them to the village.  The Pukka Chukkas chosen charity is for Multiple Sclerosis.  She is looking forward to the 2011 Championships in November. This was created using Creating Memories by Southern Creek Designs.

I ordered and had delivered ‘Big Foot’ for Kylan’s 3rd birthday – he was so excited at the big parcel arriving for him from his Gran.  Well!! Big Foot terrified him at first and it took a little time for Kylan to warm to him but now they are firm friends.  With this particular page I loved how I could colour all the frames with different papers and the dimensions and layers came together nicely.  I like bulk in my paper scrap albums and love layering.  I find it difficult to just…stop… This was created using the PDW Collab: Happy Birthday to Me.

We hope Ozegirl has inspired you as much as she does us. Happy Scrapping!
