A little Variety…

July 28, 2011

We are almost to the end of the month, time sure is flying by!

Here are the other two challenges in the Variety Pack portion of our Challenges forum this month:

Scraplift Challenge

Hosted by me, Becki (crazsquaw)

You post your name in the forum that you want to play, then you will get a PM with the link of the page you are going to scrap lift.
When you are done with your page, you will post your page and the one you lifted in the thread.

Everyone’s pages will be different, and this is a lot of fun!

Sandie was given this beautiful page to lift by Anita:

PDWKKWSOPALEAww

and here is her awesome page…I personally love them both!

For playing along in the challenge, you will receive this awesome mini kit by Mermaid Designs

You can check out her shoppe here:

http://www.plaindigitalwrapper.com/shoppe/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=112

Font Challenge

Hosted by me, Becki (crazsquaw)

Are you a font addict like myself?

I can’t even count how many I have, and I don’t use most…I need to change that!

This month, the font challenge may be adding one more to your list (aka stash) of fonts!

http://www.dafont.com/talking-to-the-moon.font

I like this font, because it is easy to read and is a nice handwritten font…so you know what else is required for this challenge, journaling!

You will need to do some journaling with your new (or maybe it isn’t) font, at least 5 lines of meaningful words about the page, photo, date, etc.

MamaB

Sandie

For completing this challenge you will receive this adorable mini by Dani’s Delusions

You can check her shoppe out here:

http://www.plaindigitalwrapper.com/shoppe/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=94

Even though the month is almost over, that doesn’t mean the challenges are. These challenges will be moved into the monthly archives and you can still play along (but won’t get the bonus after the end of the month). And there will always be new challenges to join in and play!! Hope to see you there!

This post is part of a series on our blog that will introduce you to the designers and team members that work behind the scenes at Plain Digital Wrapper to make it a fun-loving, digi-family. We would love to get to know you better as well, so if you aren’t already hanging out with us in the forum, please take a moment to say good morning to us, introduce yourself, and find some inspiration from our many challenges!

This week we are highlighting our resident template designer, Scraps of Candy. You can check out her store here or visit her blog here.

Candy has been a designer for PDW since November 2009 and creates most things in Photoshop CS4. She does occasionally still go back and play with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 though too. She started digital scrapbooking in the fall of 2006, shortly after having her second child and realizing she hadn’t printed a single picture since her son (who was three and half at the time) was six months old. She decided that she needed to get her children out of her computer and show them off and digital scrapbooking (a craft a friend had told her about earlier that same year) seemed to be a great way to do that. Coming from an educational background in Journalism: Magazine Layout and Design and a career in Information Technology, digital scrapbooking seemed like a perfect fit for her. Candy started making templates for fun and hadn’t really considered selling them until a store approached her about doing so. Unfortunately, that store was in French and despite a year of French (a long time ago) in High School she wasn’t really comfortable applying there so decided to look for a store that was a better fit.

Here is what Candy shared with us about herself:

What one thing would you want on a deserted island and why? If we are ruling out people and only going with “things”, I would have to say my iPhone (with an Internet connection)! It has a camera plus I could Facebook someone to come rescue me after I am done taking pictures of the island.

What was your favorite childhood toy or game? I don’t recall having a favorite toy. I did carry a Cabbage Patch (named Miracle Dawn) with me for a little while so I suppose it would have been that, mostly I spent my time lost in books though.

Do you sing in the shower/car? Unfortunately for those who are in the car with me, yes, I do sing in the car.

What is your biggest pet peeve? I have a real hard time with disorganization. (If you saw my house right now, you would find great irony in this though. We moved in November and I still haven’t been able to find a place for everything. When I started trying, hubby said we weren’t staying here passed our lease so it seemed pointless.)

What is/was your nemesis? I have a hard time with perfectionism, not necessarily in others but in myself. I find this sometimes keeps me from doing certain things that I know I am bad at (like video games or sports) or trying new things for fear of not succeeding at it.

Where do you get your inspiration from? I have discovered that I find inspiration in some strange places; browsing the clearance aisle at Wal-mart the other day I saw a puzzle I thought would make a great template and snapped a picture of it; the inspiration for two of templates came from day care bulletin boards. Mostly though, my inspiration for my templates comes directly from my own layouts.

What is your least favorite part of designing? I am still struggling to figure out the magic formula for marketing. If you have any tips, feel free to send them my way!

What is your favorite part of designing? I love seeing how my templates are used by scrappers. There is something amazing about seeing a layout and knowing you helped inspire it.

What are some your favorite products you have designed?

I love multi-photo layouts like those in Candy Wrappers: Flavor G.

Layout by Modgee.

One of the templates in Candy Wrappers: Flavor E was inspired by my letter to my son’s teacher about what makes him special when he was student of the week so that template set holds a special place in my heart.

Candy Wrappers: Flavor I was created from layouts from my wedding album which I finally finished this year.

I love nature photography almost as much as scrapbooking and that was the inspiration for my Candy Fillers: Farm Fresh Backgrounds.

My Hybrid Wrap: Baby Word Album was created to make a gift for a very special newborn.

In addition to being a designer, Candy is also on the Creative Teams for Southern Creek Designs and Sherwood Studio as well as a site administrator for Plain Digital Wrapper.

Be sure to stop by Scrap of Candy’s blog to pick up a limited-time taste test of her templates.
